In the past six months or so, my eight year old son has been studying the armor of God, what it means to be one of His knights and everything that entails. It’s become a theme around our house, so when I received word that there was a new Bible for boys called “Brave Knight Bible,” I jumped on the opportunity to review it.
This is a compact Bible – it will fit nicely into any boy’s hands for carrying to church or into a backpack. It’s hardcover and it seems like it will hold up to adventures – inside or out – really well. My son likes to have his Bible with him pretty much anywhere, so that works for me!
When he opened it, this was in the front cover:
You are God’s Brave Knight
God is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings
“I am the LORD, your Holy One…your King.” Isaiah 43:15
You are a Child of the King
“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26
You are loved by the King
“Thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee.” Isaiah 43:4
Throughout the Bible there are also gorgeous illustrations for kids about what a knight is like. They are brave, they are kind, etc. My son loved this and eagerly went through each one and read them (and the accompanying verse) to me with much delight.
That said, the only disappointment I have in this Bible is that they chose to make it KJV. My son thinks it’s awesome because this is his first KJV Bible. As soon as he started reading, he realized it was really different and was asking a lot of questions. This works in that he’s reading and curious, but I’m concerned he will get frustrated. As much as he loves this Bible (and he has been carrying it everywhere) we’re encouraging him to partner it with another Bible so he can see the difference in the verses/language. For kids, I’d recommend a simpler version to understand. Other than that, this Bible is absolutely perfect for him and it’s a wonderful addition to my son’s growing library and interest in God’s word!
